Kannada film industry’s heartthrob, Yash’s
Masterpiece continues to dominate the box office
across the Bengaluru-Kolar-Tumkuru belt, besides
giving Bollywood films like Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani
run for their money in this region.
The film, which was released on Thursday, set a
new box office record for Kannada film by raking in
over Rs 6 crore on its opening day and on Friday the
increased number of screens and morning shows
across the state helped the movie to manage Rs 3.6
crore in theatrical collections. On Saturday the film
collected Rs 3 crore and Sunday it managed Rs 4
crore taking its first weekend collection to more than
Rs 16 crore.
What’s more. The films starring big stars like
Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh
has failed to stop the film. The collections of Dilwale
and Bajirao Mastani is said have been made moderate
as against Masterpiece across Bengaluru-Kolar-
Tumkuru region.
Bengaluru city, being one of the largest cosmopolitan
city in the country is a golden trove for films of
various language. The city dwellers had enormously
contributed to box office success of films from other
states, especially Bollywood. Gone are the days,
when Kannada producers were frightened to release
films against Bollywood and Tollywood films starring
big stars.
Kannada film industry, though is yet to achieve its full
potential, has grown by leaps and bounds in winning
over a large audience base with some games
changers joining the industry.
Yash has, indeed, upped the bar in the game of box
office collection in Sandalwood.
